Internet Basics for New Comers

Today's hi-tech has no limit to where it leads us, there is always a minimum, the bottom line for the Internet. The information provided in this page is the absolute minimum requirement and cost for maintaining a Website for your business and getting you connected to the Internet.

The basic Internet communication has three components, they are:

Internet Connection:

As in the use of a telephone, one needs a connection to get on the Internet 'system'. Today's technology has provided numerous options to get you connected to the Internet, but the basic and most widely used methods are still the telephone line or cable connections.

There are two types of basic connections, one is dial-up through an existing telephone line, the other is called a hi-speed connection that either uses an existing telephone line or a television cable.

You need an Internet service provider (ISP) who can provides you with an Internet connection service. There is a cost for the service, but it can be very reasonable.. See the chart for some examples...

An Internet connection usually provide you with the ability to send / receive emails, browsing numerous Websites that are published on the Internet

E-mail Address:

Once you have an Internet connection, you will need an e-mail address, or an 'electronic mailing address'. It is used for others to send you message through the Internet. Once an Internet connection is established, the service will provide their users with an email address, sometime several addresses. The e-mail feature usually comes with your Internet connection without any extra charges.

Internet Webspace:

If you would like to publish any type of electronic information of your own on the Internet, so that the others can see it at their convenience, you need to reserve a 'space' on the Internet, it is usually called 'Webspace'. This service is usually separate from your Internet connection service, and an extra cost will usually apply.

Some Internet service providers, however, provide their customers with a small but sufficient personal Webspace of 5-10mb at no extra charge. But if your business Website generates a lot traffic, has many visitors, or requires other Internet hosting features, you will have to subscribe to an Internet Hosting service. The basic cost for Internet Hosting service is also very reasonable. See Chart for some examples.
